Mr Prabhu held the portfolio of the Union Minister of Industries in 1996 followed by the Union Minister of Environment and Forests in 1998-99, the Union Minister of Chemicals and Fertilizers in 1999-2000, and the Union Minister of Power between 2000-2002. In all these Ministries he has left a permanent stamp by his initiatives, his positive approach, his development efforts and his transparency. As soon as he would assume charge he would get prepared a blue print of that sector for the next five years with the target dates and action points. He is well known for his easy accessibility to the public. Mr Prabhu believes in listening to criticism of the government's policies, which, he says, helps in reorienting the policies towards the greater common good. He is also a believer in people's participation in the working of the ministries under him especially through the involvement of NGOs and people's groups.
