Shri Raha joined Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), a FortuneGlobal
500 Corporate, as a Management Trainee in 1970. After a series of
field and staff assignments in various disciplines, he joined the
IndianOil Board as Director (Human Resources) in June 1998; concurrently,
he held the charge of Business Development, Information Technology
and Corporate Communications. At this time, he created and chaired
several Joint Ventures of IOCL.
Before joining the IndianOil Board, Mr. Raha served on deputation
(1996-98) with the Government of India as the Head of the Oil Coordination
Committee, Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas. On this assignment,
he managed national oil and gas logistics and worked on deregulation
of the Oil & Gas Industry.
Shri Raha took over as Chairman & Managing Director of Oil
and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (ONGC) in May 2001; he is concurrently
the Chairman of ONGC Videsh Ltd (OVL) and Mangalore Refinery &
Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL).
ONGC, with market capitalization of over 21 billion USD is ranked
as the Most Valuable Company in India. ONGC’s net worth of
over 75 billion USD, and net profit (2002-03) of 2.21 billion USD
are the highest achieved by any Indian Company. ONGC Videsh Ltd
(OVL), the wholly-owned subsidiary, is a multinational corporate
with 3 billion USD investment abroad. MRPL, a potentially sick company,
was taken over by ONGC in early 2003; the speed of MRPL’s
turn-around is unprecedented in Indian Corporate history.
Shri Raha is an honorary Fellow of the All India Management Association
and the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers; he is a Fellow of
the World Academy of Productivity Sciences. Among several other
recognitions, he has received the “Eminent Engineer”
Award from The Institution of Engineers (India), Delhi Chapter.
Shri Raha is Chairman of the Petrotech Society, a non-profit organization
for promotion of academic excellence in Indian Oil & Gas industry.
He is Chairman of the Research Council of the Indian Institute of
Petroleum (IIP) under the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
(CSIR), Government of India. He is Chairman of the Hydrocarbons
Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce &
Industry (FICCI).
