Ms Tiahoga Ruge
Director General, Centre for Education and Training for Sustainable Development, Mexico


She was born in Mexico and has extensive international experience in promoting the environment through television, films, videos, internet and other communication technologies. Studies in Biology, Film Direction and Social Anthropology. Fully fluent in Spanish, English, and German and is conversant in four other languages.

Currently Coordinator General of the Education and Training Center for Sustainable Development (CECADESU) of the Ministry of Environment in Mexico (SEMARNAT). Also since January 2003, she is the Coordinator of the Nationwide “Crusade for Forest and Water”, which has as its main objective to create awareness on these issues.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Founding President and Director of the North American Center for Environmental Information and Communication (CICEANA) [1995-2000]. Founder of Bioplanet@, a network of sustainable communities linked by E-Commerce [1999]. Director and producer of several national and international television programs and series on environmental issues, including a five-part series on the Biosphere 2 project. President of Friends of the Biosphere [1991-1995]. Science and Culture Counselor, Embassy of Mexico in India. Assistant to Federico Fellini in Italy [1979-1980].

INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION
Participant at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) 2003/2002 New Delhi, India. Participant at The World Summit on Sustainable Development, Johannesburg, South Africa [2002]. Participant at the Annual Symposiums of the InfoDev project of the World Bank [1998-2000]. Participant and lecturer of regional workshops of Television Trust for the Environment. Participant at “The Global Knowledge Conference – Kuala Lumpur, March 2000”. Special advisor on Sustainable Development for the design and content of the Mexican Pavilion at the Hannover World Expo 2000.
