In ADB, Dr Huq has been responsible for undertaking important policy initiatives for: (i) promoting sustainable infrastructure development including urban air and water quality improvement and industrial waste management; (ii) enhancing efficiency in the supply and demand of energy; (iii) supporting market-oriented utility and energy price reforms; (iv) promoting renewable and alternative energy sources to support poverty reduction, encourage environmental improvement, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions and global warming; (v) building capacity and strengthening institutions for sustainable environment management and energy development; (vi) supporting enterprise governance reforms and restructuring; and (vii) supporting utilization of funds from ordinary capital resources in financing energy efficiency and environmental improvement investment. Dr Huq has also been associated with several major successful regional technical assistance projects of ADB including Environmental Considerations in Energy Development, Economic Evaluation of Environmental Impacts, A Strategy for Emerging Asia and Asian Least-Cost Greenhouse Gas Abatement Strategy (ALGAS), and Clean Development Mechanism. He is now the coordinator of the ongoing regional project on the Promotion of Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Abatement (PREGA) financed jointly by ADB and the Government of the Netherlands. |
