This
special event presented the outcome of a three year long study
titled ‘Estimating carbon footprint of urban energy use’. Funded
by Veolia Institute of Environment, France, this study was undertaken
by TERI in two phases.
The first phase focussed on developing a tool to assess the
impact of household energy consumption in urban areas. The
footprinting techniques, namely EF (Ecological Footprint)
and CF (Carbon Footprint) were evaluated for their application
for assessing household energy footprint. These techniques
were adapted and a framework developed to assess the CF of
urban household energy use.
As part of the second phase of the study, this framework
was applied in one city in India (Jaipur) and one in China
(Shijiazhuang). This workshop focused on discussing the results
for the Indian city.
