The session was chaired by Dr R K Pachauri, Director General, TERI, who warmly welcomed and introduced Swami Sukhabodhananda to the audience.
In his keynote speech, Swami ji emphasized on the need to bring harmony between the inner nature of a human being and the nature as we see in pristine glory outside. He talked about the importance of focusing on ethical dimensions of decision making in every sphere of life.
Sharing interesting stories and humorous anecdotes, Swami ji brought attention to the existence of an imbalanced state within all individuals and an inner foolishness, which even knowledge fails to destroy. Citing Gandhiji’s famous quote on ‘need versus greed’, he considered inner greed to be responsible for shaking the inner and outer ecological balance.
To address any imbalance in outer ecology, he emphasized on addressing disturbances and conflicts within human beings. Genesis of every war, which also is the greatest ecological polluter, is actually the misery in the inner self. Lack of love, happiness, goodness, peace and sensitivity inside human beings is reflected in their actions, since they give what they have. It is, therefore, important to have peace and love within to be able to spread the same outside. Also, it is important to learn the art of giving.
In his concluding remarks, he talked about favouring vertical growth in terms in values, over horizontal growth in terms of material possessions. He stressed on the importance of knowledge management of the ways to be blissful within oneself, to be able to bring external harmony, and create inner and outer balance.
Dr Pachauri found the talk very profound and acknowledged Swami ji’s contribution towards the endeavour of ‘Lighting a Billion Lives’ in Mahima village in Uttarakhand.
