The Royal Norwegian Embassy, New Delhi

The Norwegian Government’s India strategy has broad support in Norway. One of the main goals is to strengthen cooperation on climate, environmental, and energy issues, including dialogue on climate policy and development of a clean energy partnership. The Norwegian Embassy promotes cooperation with India on environment, renewable energy, and climate change at a governmental, institutional, and business-to-business level. Norway is committed to strengthen, intensify, and further develop mutually beneficial cooperation with India through strategic use of its resources and expertise. There has been impressive progress in the cooperation within these fields. For instance, the two governments are collaborating on sharing and developing knowledge on biodiversity, as international negotiations and decisions on this topic must be based on solid knowledge. Centre for Biodiversity Policy and Law (CEBPOL) is planned in Tamil Nadu, to inform policy-makers and legislators on the many aspects of biodiversity conservation, and play an informative role in the conference of the parties to the Convention on Biodiversity.

Climate Change and Development, Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi

The Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), a directorate of the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs, is represented in India through the Climate Change and Development Division (CCD), Embassy of Switzerland in India. Since 2011, the long and successful traditional development cooperation between India and Switzerland has been phased out and the partnership now focusses on global public goods of climate change with emphasis on co-benefits of reduced emissions and double dividend of development. The guiding principle of the global programme on climate change is on opening up low-carbon paths to development (‘avoiding the unmanageable’), learning to live with climate change (‘managing the unavoidable’), minimizing climate-risks in development cooperation, and building on science-based knowledge and research experience. The emphasis is on innovation, dialogue, capacity building, and cooperation in climate change, adaptation, and energy. Specific programmes and partnerships focus on:

• Energy efficiency in building energy sector; and in micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME sector)
• Energy access for the poor and micro enterprises based on biomass energy and micro-hydro
• Climate change adaptation to address food-water security and climate resilient development through capacity building at state and community level
• Disaster risk management as well as food security as integral part of climate change adaptation

In addition, the cooperation also houses following cooperation programmes in India—Local Governance Initiative (LOGIN), South Asia Hub; Swiss Humanitarian Aid Unit (SHA); and State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

World Bank

The World Bank Group encompasses five closely associated development institutions: the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA), and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).

The World Bank, which came into existence in July 1944, is made up of two unique development institutions owned by 187 member countries—the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the International Development Association (IDA). It is a vital source of financial and technical assistance to developing countries around the world. Each institution plays a different, but supportive role in the Bank mission of global poverty reduction and the improvement of living standards. The IBRD focusses on middle income and creditworthy poor countries, while IDA focuses on the poorest countries in the world. Together, they provide low-interest loans, interest-free credit, and grants to developing countries for education, health, infrastructure, communications, and many other purposes.

During fiscal year 2011 (July 2010 to June 2011), the total World Bank lending amounted to $42 billion, comprising about $26 billion in IBRD lending and $26 billion in IDA support.

World Bank in India

India is one of the oldest members of the World Bank, having joined the institution in 1944. The World Bank's $23 billion-portfolio in the country covers 76 active investment projects spanning a range of sectors, including infrastructure, education, health, livelihoods, agriculture, and rural development. India has borrowed $92 billion (IDA- $44 billion and IBRD- $48 billion) at the current prices during its sixty years of relationship with the Bank.

BMW Group in India

With its three brands, BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce, the BMW Group has its sights set firmly on the premium sector of the Indian automobile market. Along with its automotive concerns, the BMW Group's activities in India comprise marketing of motorcycles, as well as financial services for its premium clientele.

BMW India

Headquartered in Gurgaon, BMW India is a 100 per cent subsidiary of the BMW Group. The wide range of BMW activities in India include the establishment of a production plant in Chennai (Tamil Nadu) with an annual capacity to produce 11,000 units on a double shift basis, parts warehouse in Mumbai, and development of a dealer organization of international standards across major metropolitan centres of the country. The total number of employees at BMW India is 650. More than 1,200 additional jobs have been created in the dealer and service network.

CLP India Pvt Ltd

CLP India is a wholly owned subsidiary of the CLP Group, which is listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and is one of the largest investor-owned power businesses in Asia. CLP India is one of the largest foreign investors in the Indian power sector with a total committed investment of over Rs 12,000 crores. This investment is spread across a diversified and environment-friendly generation portfolio that covers renewable energy, supercritical coal, and gas fired generation, amounting to 2,696.8 MW.

It has been operating a 655-MW gas fired power plant in Bharuch, Gujarat, since 2002. This plant has achieved NOSA 5-Star accreditation for complying with the highest level of internationally accepted safety standards and is 1SO 14001 certified, complying with the highest standards in environment conservation. The plant was recently awarded the status of a “NOSCAR” company, which is the ultimate recognition of excellence in occupational risk management. The company is also building a 1,320-MW supercritical coal-fired power plant in Jhajjar, Haryana. Both the units of this plant have been successfully synchronized and the first 660-MW unit of the Jhajjar Power Plant has achieved Commercial Operation Date (COD).

In line with the CLP Group's commitment to developing 20 per cent of its generating capacity from non-carbon emitting energy sources, such as renewable energy and nuclear power by 2020, CLP India is one of the largest wind power developers in India with over 720 MW of committed wind projects—over 400 MW of this capacity is already commissioned and the rest is in various stages of development.

Ministry for Foregn Affairs of Finland

Agence Française de Développement (AFD)

Agence Française de Développement (AFD) is a public development finance institution that has been working to fight poverty and support economic growth in developing countries and the French Overseas Communities for seventy years. It executes the policy defined by the French Government. AFD is present on four continents where it has an international network of 70 agencies and representation offices. It finances and supports projects that improve people’s living conditions, promote economic growth, and protect the planet: schooling for children, maternal health, support for farmers and small businesses, water supply, tropical forest preservation, fight against climate change, among other concerns.

In 2011, AFD approved nearly € 6.9 billion to finance activities in developing countries and the French Overseas Communities. The funds will help get 4 million children into primary school and 2 million into secondary school; they will also improve drinking water supply for 1.53 million people. Energy efficiency projects financed by AFD in 2011 will save nearly 3.8 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually. In India, AFD is active since 2008. AFD funds projects aiming at improving energy efficiency, promoting renewable energies, and sustainable urban infrastructures. In 2011, AFD in India provided loans accounting to € 233 million

United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) helps empower lives and build resilient nations. We offer global perspective and local insight to help empower lives and build resilient nations that can withstand crisis, and that drive and sustain growth that improves the quality of life for everyone. We call this people-centred approach “human development”.

Danish Cultural Institute

The Danish Cultural Institute promotes dialogue and understanding across cultural differences and national borders. Furthermore, it addresses the cultural challenges of globalization and of constructing sustainable, inclusive, and innovative solutions for the future. The work is founded on a broad conceptual platform that embraces art, culture, education, research, and society.

The Danish Cultural Institute helps develop networks and strengthens collaboration between Danish and international artists, professionals, institutions, businesses, and communities. Using culture as a common starting point, we create platforms for knowledge sharing, events, exchange of ideas, and lasting cultural relations.

The Danish Cultural Institute was founded in 1940 and is an independent institution with branches in ten countries and collaborative partners all over the world. In 2009, the Institute co-launched an international network for culture and sustainable development called Culture/Futures, which has IPCC Chairman Dr Pachauri as a global patron.

In 2012, the Danish Cultural Institute has taken part in the largest Indian-Danish programme of collaboration ever in Denmark: ‘India Today–Copenhagen Tomorrow’ (August 2012–January 2013), which was initiated by the Holck-Larsen Foundation. Our activities included a two-day conference, a media exchange programme, a web-magazine and social network www.CocreateNow.org, and an idea competition for students in Denmark and India: ‘Co-creating Sustainable Solutions for the Future’, in cooperation with Larsen & Toubro Ltd, Rambøll, Haldor Topsøe, Copenhagen Business School, and the East Asiatic Company Foundation.

Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO)

In response to the urgent and pressing global call for sustainably produced palm oil, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) was formed in 2004 with the objective of promoting the growth and use of sustainable oil palm products through credible global standards and engagement of stakeholders. The seat of the association is in Zurich, Switzerland, while the secretariat is currently based in Kuala Lumpur with a satellite office in Jakarta.

RSPO is a not-for-profit association that unites stakeholders from seven sectors of the palm oil industry—oil palm producers, palm oil processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental or nature conservation NGOs, and social or developmental NGOs— to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.

Such multi-stakeholder representation is mirrored in the governance structure of RSPO such that seats in the Executive Board and project-level Working Groups are fairly allocated to each sector. In this way, RSPO lives out the philosophy of the "roundtable" by giving equal rights to each stakeholder group to bring group-specific agendas to the roundtable, facilitating traditionally adversarial stakeholders and business competitors to work together towards a common objective and make decisions by consensus.

Types of Membership

RSPO is composed of Ordinary Members in seven different sectors, Affiliate Members, and Supply Chain Associates.

The seven sectors of Ordinary Members are:

• • Palm oil processors and/or traders
• • Consumer goods manufacturers
• • Retailers
• • Banks and investors
• • Environmental/nature conservation NGOs
• • Social/developmental NGOs

Applicant for the Ordinary membership has to specify and qualify for one specific sector only.

Affiliate membership is open to organizations or individuals who are not actively involved in any of the above seven sectors and have expressed an interest in the objectives and activities of the RSPO (for example, academia, research and development organizations, donors, sponsors).

The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF)

The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) is a global, parity-based industry network, driven by its members. It brings together CEOs and senior management of over 400 retailers, manufacturers, service providers, and other stakeholders across 70 countries and reflects the diversity of the industry in geography, size, product category, and format. Forum member companies have combined sales of €2.5 trillion. Their retailer and manufacturer members directly employ nearly 10 million people with a further 90 million related jobs estimated along the value chain.

The Consumer Goods Forum is governed by its Board of Directors, which includes 50 manufacturer and retailer CEOs and Chairmen. The Forum provides a unique global platform for knowledge exchange and initiatives around five strategic priorities—emerging trends, sustainability, safety and health, operational excellence and knowledge sharing, and people development—which are central to the advancement of today’s consumer goods industry.

The Forum’s vision is: “Better lives through better business”. To fulfill this, its members have given the Forum a mandate to develop common positions on key strategic and operational issues affecting the consumer goods business, with a strong focus on non-competitive process improvement. The Forum’s success is driven by the active participation of the key players in the sector, who together develop and lead the implementation of best practices along the value chain.

With its headquarters in Paris and its regional offices in Washington, DC and Tokyo, the CGF serves its members throughout the world.

ITPS

The Institution for Transport Policy Studies (ITPS) is an independent, non-profit foundation established in 1969, under the auspices of the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. The activities of the Institution involve comprehensive research and survey programs on transport matters. And the Japan International Transport Institute (JITI), which is one of the institutes of ITPS, has been engaging in comprehensive studies concerning international transport. With offices in Washington DC and in Tokyo, JITI widely provides information regarding transport issues in the US, the European Union, and the East Asian region. JITI also work to increase understanding and facilitate greater contact among all interested parties in the transport field through the hosting of conferences and seminars as well as through evaluating and offering recommendations on transport policy issues.
