WSDS Installation
WSDS Installation at Terminal 3, Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi
India's commitments in the Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) are ambitious. A reduction of emission intensity of 33-35% between 2005 and 2030 will be no small feat. In the last two years, India has made great strides in diversifying its energy mix by moving towards renewable sources like solar and wind. It is reducing its emissions intensity through voluntary domestic mitigation and adaptation efforts. Along with stronger commitments to increase the composition of renewable energy in our energy mix to 40% by 2030, enhancing energy efficiency and increasing carbon taxation through its 8 missions against climate change, the country has also introduced mechanisms for monitoring the air quality and levels of pollution.
Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) has been emphasising on implementing projects and programmes to promote clean energy technologies through an innovative policy-based business model to end users. WSDS, in this regard, has assumed a critical significance. It intends to chart a road map for implementing activities to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and objectives outlined in the COP21 agreement signed in Paris. The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) has been working extensively on enhancing productivity, energy efficiency, and competitiveness of industry.
Additionally, there is a need to constantly remind the citizens of their commitment to achieve the country's pledges. Another key element of the Paris Agreement, facilitating this nudging, is the transparency mechanism through which all countries will periodically report on their actions to achieve their pledges and on the impact of their actions. This reporting will create an environment for citizens to know what they and their government are doing, and whether their actions are adequate.
GMR, EESL, and TERI have come together to set up a photo booth for the people to pledge their commitment to contribute towards energy efficiency and to act for the earth. #Act4Earth is a movement to mobilise people and communities to take action for the environment. With one simple act of moving to energy-efficient LED bulbs, the people too can do their bit to save money and make the entire nation more energy efficient, and help India reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
