Minister commends TERI for monitoring and implementation of sustainable policy

The Minister for Sustainability and Renewable Energy for India PIYUSH GOYAL has praised The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) for monitoring and ensuring implementation of sustainability policies arrived during global and local conferences. Minister PIYUSH made the statement as he addressed participants attending the World Sustainable Development Summit holding from October 5 -8, 2016, at the New Delhi Habitat Centre.
He went further to praised TERI for being a good institution and helping government with good strategies on how to achieve sustainable energy and development. He added that India does not only want to follow the world in development of sustainable energy and development but they want to lead the world. This explains why many projects are currently on going to make all India development followed a sustainable development path. He promised to take into considerations all the resolutions that will come out of the 2016 edition of World Sustainable Development Summit.
Other key speakers of the day who spoke to journalists participating in TERI annual media colloquium, included Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation Cesare Onestini and the European Union Counselor for Environment Henriette Faergemann.
Faergemann acknowledged India role and contribution in global sustainable solutions. To better address this issue India currently has a massive solar power programme which aims to increase the share of renewable from 7% in 2012 to 22% in 2022. There are also numerous programmes to promote other renewable energy sources and energy efficiency. She added that EU is supporting India clear energy endeavours just like other developing countries in three ways providing the design for a 200mw offshore wind farm off the coast of Gujarat or Tamil Nadu. To also design and implementation of energy efficiency legislation on the demand side in cooperation with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency in four states.
Finally assistance India's solar park programme to enable integration into the electricity grid in a designated green energy corridor.
Other speakers of like the World Bank group made presentations on how to handle threats of agriculture production and adaptation possibilities with climate change, so as to ensure food security and sustained growth and sustainability. Ensure portable water sources across developing countries.
The main recommendations according to various experts are for countries to enhance sharing of information on best practices with other nations. These will sustainable development ideas spread fast. This must be with the help of the media and other forms of information disseminations.
