Act immediately to protect us against climate change: Pranab Mukherjee
By Sathish Kumar, Dinamalar
President Pranab Mukherjee has said that everyone must act immediately to protect ourselves against the dangers of climate change, which is endangering the world. He was speaking on Thursday at the World Sustainable Development Summit organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in New Delhi.
He said that climate change is a real and imminent danger that has been recognised by the world, which has given priority to fighting it. It poses risks to agriculture and India as a developing country must give importance to dealing with it and adopt proper policies for it.
Indians make up only 18 percent of the world population but have access to only four percent of the water and use only six percent of the global resources, he said. Under these circumstances sustainable development is possible, but it must be kept in mind that it would have to be through efficient use of resources.
