Corporate sector turns to clean energy and efficient products to fight climate change

New Delhi: A corporate leader, Randal Newton, says that businesses are contributing to the fight against climate change by investing in green technology to develop energy efficient products and also substitutes for chemicals that my be harmful to the environment.

The Vice President of Enterprise Engineering at Ingersoll Rand, Randal Newton, said Friday at the Media Colloquium of the World Sustainable Summit that one of the the biggest contributions to fighting global warming and climate change is the deployment of air conditioners that use less electricity.

His company, he said, is a world leader in producing energy efficient products and it made business sense go in for them. They have dedicated green teams spreading awareness about conservation and tackling pollution and for this the company has constituted 100 green teams in different parts of world, where company manufactures its products.

"We call these teams "glocal" a combination of global and local terms, which insist on addressing local issues that impact the globe" he said.

In 2014, Ingersoll Rand announced its Climate Commitment to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from its products and operations by 2030.

He said the Commitment pledges to:
- Cut the refrigerant greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint of its products by 50 percent by 2020 and incorporate lower-global warming potential alternatives across its portfolio by 2030;
- Invest $500 million in product-related research and development by 2020 to fund the long-term reduction of GHG emissions,
- And reduce company operations-related GHG emissions by 35 percent by 2020.
