New Delhi, Oct 7: A multi-national company manufacturing airconditioning equipment today pitched energy-efficient products as a way to advance sustainable development and at the same time contribute to controlling global warming.
Ingersoll Rand's Vice President for Enterprise Engineering, Randal Newton, said,"Our biggest contribution to control global warming will be the use of products which use less electricity in air conditioning."
He said that the corporate sector should promote awareness about green technology that can address climate change issues.
To boost energy efficiency and sustainability, Newton said that Ingersoll Rand has formed "Green Teams" for promoting and awareness about energy consumption and tackling pollution.
"The green teams have been fanned out in different communities to inform people how to take care of the environment," Newton said, adding that Ingersoll Rand - one of the leading manufacturers of airconditioning and refrigeration products in the world -- is an environmentally progressive company.
He was speaking during an interactive session with journalists at the Media Colloquium held here as part of the four-day World Sustainable Development Summit organised by The Energy and Resources Institute.
He added that the company has about 100 green teams in different parts of the world where the company manufactures its products.
"We call these teams 'glocal' -- a combination of global and local terms -- which insist on addressing local issues that impact the globe," he said.
"Our focus is on use of energy efficient products and refrigerants. We push for minor changes in product design without sacrificing energy efficiency," he said.
Newton said he hoped that manufacturers will be able to find solutions to environment challenges by making energy-efficient products.
He said that one of the factors pushing the drive environmentally friendly products is the zeal of younger workers who care about climate change and the environment. They prefer to work in companies that manufacture green technology products and lobby for environment-oriented polices, he said.
