Youth Climate Conclave

The Youth Climate Conclave concluded on 31st January 2020. The 2 day deliberations encompassed capacity building sessions on science of climate change, international response to climate change, India's position on climate policy and background of various parties' stand in the negotiation process on day 1. Present at the inaugural session was Dr J. R. Bhatt, Advisor- Climate Change, MOEFCC, GOI, Ms Henriette Faergemann, First Counsellor- Environment, Climate and Energy Counsellor, EU Delegation to India, Dr Arunabha Ghosh, CEO, CEEW, Dr Ashish Chaturvedi, Director- Climate Change, GIZ and Dr Livleen K Kahlon, Associate Director, TERI. Italian Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Pietro Sferra Carini presented the Italian initiative related to upcoming COP26.

On day 2, all the students participated in a simulation exercise to give their view point on mitigation and adaptation strategies within their respective negotiation groups. The outcome of the deliberations was a Youth Declaration on Climate Change which was presented by the students in the Special Session for Youth scheduled on 31 January 2020 as part of World Sustainable Development Summit in the presence of Mr Nitin Desai, Chairman, TERI, Dr J. R. Bhatt, Advisor- Climate Change, MOEFCC, GOI, Mr Atul Bagai, Head of Country Office (India), UNEP, Mr Raimund Magis, Deputy Head of Delegation, Delegation of the European Union to India and Dr Ajay Mathur, DG, TERI.

The programme reached out to 85 students from across the country. These students were selected through a rigorous application process and winners of photography and blogging contest also won a chance to participate. The contests were organised as a prelude to the Conclave.
