Youth have a critical role in combating climate change being the major stakeholder and partners in driving action. The primary role of the Youth Climate Conclave (YCC) is therefore to engage Indian youth in a positive and proactive way in science based discussions on the most relevant climate change issues and to identify opportunities for youth and governments to drive joint action on fulfilling the climate change agenda. YCC is being led by the Delegation of the European Union to India, in partnership with UNICEF, GIZ, TERI, and CEEW, with the Ministry of Environment Forest and Climate Change as Nodal Ministry. So far, three editions have been held since its inception in 2019 (https://wsds.teriin.org/ycc_v3/youth-climate-conclave-3.php). The timing of YCC also coincides with India taking up the role of G20 presidency. The YCC program aims at strengthening critical thinking, creativity, scientific understanding, communication, collaboration, multilingualism, problem solving, ethics, social responsibility, and digital literacy amongst Indian youth. Youth will also get an opportunity to draft a ‘Youth Pledge’ that will be presented in the youth plenary focusing on sustainable lifestyle being organised in the World Sustainable Development Summit 2023 (https://wsds.teriin.org/2023/). It promises to be again a very interesting event with high-level speakers, discussions and interviews by youth, video messages, quiz, etc. Best entries of the photography competition conducted under YCC will also be showcased and promoted.
We are inviting children and youth in the age category of 10 – 18 years and 19 – 25 years across India to participate in the YCC 2023.
